FAMILY EMERGENCY PLANNING

Your family knows what to do, even if you’re not there.

Most families have never actually written this down. This is the one that gets it done.

Where most families start

Most families don’t actually have a plan.

Nothing ever reminds you to do this.

Car insurance renews every year and reminds you it exists, and smoke detectors chirp when the battery runs low, but a family emergency plan has nothing like that, so nothing nudges you until something happens and you’re standing there without one.

Most people find out the hard way instead.

The power goes out for a few days and nobody agrees on the next move. A storm shows up on the forecast and the group text fills up without producing a decision. That’s usually the first time anyone in the house actually thinks about this, and by then it’s already happening.

Doing it before you need it is the entire difference.

Getting a plan onto paper and onto every phone before anything happens changes what a bad day actually looks like, because everyone already knows the next move.

What changes

A short list of plans covers a long list of emergencies.

Planning event by event never gets finished.

Most planning stalls because people try to plan for events one at a time, with a hurricane plan, then a fire plan, then a winter plan, and because that list never ends, the plan never gets finished.

Plan for a few shared consequences and you’ve covered dozens of emergencies.

The Contingency Planner follows military planning methodology, which has you plan for the few things those events have in common, like losing power, losing communication, and getting a family that’s scattered across work and school back to one place. Build solid plans for those, and you’ve covered the response to dozens of emergencies without writing a separate plan for each one.

The result is everyone knowing what to do, even without you.

Everyone knows where to go and how to reach each other, the kids included, and it holds even if you’re the one who isn’t there. It’s the same reason you keep smoke detectors and a will. Being the person your family can count on means having this handled before anyone needs it.

“The piece I needed that I didn’t know I needed. This helped me square away my thoughts and put everything down.”

Who built this

Sam Amyett, founder of MAD Gear

Built by someone whose job depended on the plan working.

Sam Amyett spent his Navy career aboard the E-6B Mercury, the aircraft built to take over command when ground-based communications have been lost. As a Mission Commander, he led the crew on deployment and built the tactical plan. As his squadron’s Mission Commander Evaluator, he trained and qualified the people who flew the mission, including the next generation of Mission Commanders. He spent years in a job where the plan working was the only acceptable outcome.

He left the Navy in 2025 and built the Contingency Planner on the same principle he worked under. A plan has to exist before the emergency, it has to live somewhere your family can find it without you, and it has to work in a format that holds up when nothing else does.

“I was at work when a tornado touched down near my house, and my wife knew exactly where to go and what to do thanks to me having written it down. The tornado didn’t hit our home, but if it had, my family was safe and knew what to do and where to go, even without me there.”

The Contingency Planner Complete Kit and ReadyPlan app, working as one system

How it works

One plan that lives in two places.

The app is where you build the plan, and it works offline once it’s on your phone.

The Contingency Planner is one planning system in two forms. ReadyPlan, the app, is where you build the plan. It walks your family through the evacuation routes, the communication steps, the contacts, and the condition plans for where you live. The drafts are AI-assisted, so you’re never staring at a blank page. Everyone in the family gets the same plan on their own device, and it syncs to each phone so it’s readable offline when the power or the signal is gone.

The kit is the paper copy that needs no charge and no signal.

The kit is the written record, a zippered fabric binder that comes loaded with the base planner, with all four expansion packs in the box. You fill it in alongside the app and keep it on the shelf at home or in a go-bag, where it works without a charge or a signal.

The plan ends up in more than one place at once.

Between the two, the plan exists in more than one place at once, on everyone’s phones, in writing on the shelf, and in your family’s memory because you built it together.

“I prefer paper, since paper doesn’t break. This is a very well put together companion to their planning software, and you don’t have to worry about your plans dissolving in the rain.”

The part that does the work

ReadyPlan builds the plan with you.

ReadyPlan drafts your plan, so you edit instead of starting from scratch.

Sitting down to write an emergency plan from scratch is where most people quit. ReadyPlan removes that. It asks about your household and where you live, then drafts real starting plans you can edit. They cover your condition plans, your communication plans, and your evacuation routes, across every situation that applies to you. You’re editing something instead of inventing it, and a family can have a complete, shared plan in an afternoon. That’s the part most people never finish.

$99 once, and the account is yours for good.

ReadyPlan Lifetime is a one-time purchase of $99, and the account is yours for good, so there is nothing to renew.

A lifetime plan on your own device is there even when nothing else is.

The whole point of a plan is that it’s there in the moment you need it, and that moment is usually the one where the power is out or the signal is gone. Once you’ve signed in, ReadyPlan keeps your plan on your phone and works with no connection at all. A subscription can lapse and a service can be shut down, but a lifetime plan that lives on your own device doesn’t depend on either.

“I started with ReadyPlan using a subscription through Google Play. Once I had the option to go with a lifetime, I jumped at the chance, and now I no longer have a monthly payment.”

Stephen Gundrum, ReadyPlan Lifetime, June 2026

Common questions

Things worth knowing before you buy.

The guided onboarding takes most people 15 to 20 minutes to complete a working first draft. ReadyPlan uses AI to generate a starting point based on your location, household size, and the risks that apply to your area. You review it, fill in the specifics, and share it with your family. The planner then gives you a permanent written record to fill in alongside it.

Each family member gets access to the shared plan through their own account on their own device. With the Family Plan, each person also has their own physical planner. The plan doesn’t live in one place that only you can find. The physical binder in particular is something you can sit down and fill in together as a family, which tends to get everyone more bought in than an app they haven’t touched.

A notebook doesn’t know what hazards are specific to your zip code, doesn’t walk you through what you might have missed, and can’t be shared with every family member’s phone in one step. The Complete Kit gives you a structured format that covers the planning areas most households overlook, including evacuation routes, communication fallbacks, role assignments, and contingency options. The structure is what makes the difference between a plan that works and a pile of notes.

Either one works on its own, and they’re designed to work better together. The app is where you iterate, because it walks you through the plan, suggests what you might have missed, and syncs updates to every family member’s phone. The planner is where you keep the plan, as the written copy that sits on the shelf and works without a charger, a signal, or a login. Most households end up using both, building and refining the plan in the app and then writing the final version into the planner.

It’s built for anything where your family needs to act on a plan you made earlier, such as hurricanes, wildfires, ice storms, extended power outages, evacuations, shelter-in-place orders, medical emergencies, or a parent traveling when something happens at home. Whatever the hazard, the structure covers the planning areas most households overlook, including communication fallbacks when phones are down, where to meet if home isn’t safe, who picks up the kids if you can’t, what supplies you actually need on hand. The plan is hazard-agnostic by design.

A few pages cover communication security, like verifying who you’re actually talking to when phones are down. They’re a small part of the kit and you can skip them entirely. The core of the planner is plain household planning, the routes, the contacts, and the steps, and that’s where most families spend their time.

Yes, ReadyPlan is designed to be a living document, so you can update any section at any time and the changes sync to every family member’s device. The physical planner uses pencil for the same reason, because plans change, and a plan you can update is more valuable than one you can’t.

Your plan lives in Google’s encrypted cloud infrastructure and on each family member’s device. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We don’t sell your data, we don’t share it with advertisers, and only the family members you invite to your plan can see it. The local copy on your device is what makes the app work offline. The cloud copy is what keeps every family member’s phone in sync when you make a change.

The Family Plan is limited to one per customer. To cover a fifth person, add a Complete Kit alongside your Family Plan order. For larger households, add additional Complete Kits as needed. If you’re outfitting an organization, team, or reseller, we offer wholesale pricing. Reach out to info@madgear.shop and we’ll work something out.

Build your first plan with your family within 30 days of purchase. If you do the work and still don’t think it was worth it, contact us at info@madgear.shop for a full refund. Unredeemed ReadyPlan Lifetime codes can be deactivated and returned for refund. The condition exists because people who actually sit down and build the plan don’t ask for refunds. The work itself is what makes it valuable.

Put your family’s plan in writing and on every phone.
