Quick-start Guide to EXFIL Planning
Share
An EXFIL Plan helps you organize the details for moving from one location to another in an emergency. Think of it as planning a specific leg of a journey to safety. You might use multiple EXFIL plans to reach your ultimate destination.
Here are a few examples of when you might need an EXFIL Plan:
- To evacuate from your home to a safer location during a hurricane.
- To move from your workplace to a designated rally point in an emergency.
- As one step in a larger bug-out plan.
Here are the key sections you'll find on your EXFIL Plan sheet:
1. Starting Location:
This is where your EXFIL plan begins. Simply write down the specific address or location you are evacuating from (e.g., Your Home: 123 Main Street).
2. Destination:
This is where your EXFIL plan ends. Simply write down the specific address or location you are traveling to (e.g., Relative's House: 456 Oak Avenue).
Key Things to Remember When Filling Out Your EXFIL Plan:
- Keep it Focused: Each EXFIL plan should focus on a single leg of your journey from a starting point to a specific destination. You can create multiple EXFIL plans to reach an ultimate destination.
- Consider Your Transportation: While this sheet doesn't specify the mode of transport, you should have a clear understanding of how you plan to travel between your starting location and destination.
- Prepare Your Vehicle: If your transportation involves a vehicle, remember to use our dedicated Vehicle Checklist sheet to ensure the vehicle is prepared and ready to go. Essential vehicle equipment details can be found on that checklist.
- Essential Equipment: Details about other essential equipment should be documented on our Inventory List or Go-Bag Packing Checklist sheets to keep this plan focused on location-to-location movement.
- Mobile PACE Plan: Consider developing a mobile-specific PACE Plan that you can easily reference and utilize during your EXFIL. This PACE plan can be linked to your EXFIL plan for quick access to communication protocols while on the move.
- Plan Primary and Alternate Routes: It’s highly recommended that you develop both a primary and at least one alternate route between your starting location and your destination. Document these routes in case your main route becomes compromised or unsafe.
By filling out your EXFIL Plan sheet clearly, you'll have a readily accessible plan for moving from one point to another when needed. Remember to consider potential routes and ensure your vehicle and other essential equipment are prepared using our other helpful sheets and consider a linked mobile PACE plan for communication.
